Krynica-Zdrój — a guide to the pearl of Polish health resorts

Krynica-Zdrój is sometimes called the "pearl of Polish spas" and is the most recognizable town in the Sądecki Beskids. It is famous for its mineral waters, historic spa architecture, and location in the Jaworzyna Krynicka mountain range. It is a place where a therapeutic walk combines with a mountain hike.

The promenade - the heart of the spa

Krynica's promenade is formed by Dietla Boulevard and a section of Nowotarska Street. This is a representative part of the city, where on pleasant days you'll encounter crowds of strolling spa guests and tourists. Cafes, guesthouses, and historic villas line the promenade.

Mineral water pump room

Near the lower station of the Góra Parkowa cable car, there's a mineral water pump room. Here, you can sample the famous Krynica sorrel—the naturally carbonated medicinal waters that gave the spa its fame.

Parkowa Mountain and the historic railway

Parkowa Mountain (742 m above sea level) rises above the promenade. You can climb it on foot or take the oldest funicular railway in Poland, operating since 1937. The lower station is located near the promenade. At the top, you'll find a café, a rope park, toboggan runs, and slides for the whole family.

Jaworzyna Krynicka right next door

From Krynica, it's easy to reach the lower gondola lift station in Czarny Potok, from where the gondola will take you to the summit of Jaworzyna Krynicka (1,114 m above sea level) . This is both a viewing point and the area's most important ski resort.

When to arrive

Krynica is attractive year-round. In summer, it attracts hikers and cyclists, in autumn, the colors of its beech forests, and in winter, the ski season. In spring and throughout the spa season, it bustles with spa life, with spa concerts and walks in the parks.

How to get there

Krynica-Zdrój can be reached by car via Nowy Sącz or by the scenic rail route through the Poprad River Gorge. It's a convenient base for exploring the entire region—from Muszyna to Piwniczna-Zdrój.
